Nanjing Museum
The Nanjing Museum is widely considered to be one of the finest and largest museums in China.  It has a truly superb collection of top quality cultural and artistic treasures  They're well presented in a modern setting, with labels and explanations in English!  When Nanjing was the capital of China before 1949, this was the National Museum, so many treasures from around the country were collected here.

Nanjing Folk Customs Museum
The heritage of classical China is not only grand palaces and fortresses or elegant gardens and paintings, but also an amazing range of fascinating folk customs and traditions. This often overlooked aspect of Chinese history is showcased at the Nanjing Folk Customs Museum.

Suzhou Arts and Crafts Museum
Suzhou's finely crafted art objects have long drawn visitors and merchants to the city, and the newly opened Suzhou Arts and Crafts Museum is dedicated to these traditional crafts. In addition to galleries displaying top-quality pieces, its real highlight is a working studio where master craftsmen demonstrate their skills.

Gallery of Stone Sculptures of the Han Dynasty
The city of Xuzhou has one of China's largest collections of stone carvings from the Han Dynasty.  Carved stone reliefs were the main art form of the Han Dynasty (200BC - 220 AD) and the museum's extensive collection is drawn from the many Han dynasty tombs and ruins around Xuzhou.

The Nantong City Museum
The Nantong City Museum (6 RMB closed from 11:30-2:00) is housed in Zhang's European style villa on Haonan Lu.  The small and forlorn collection of local archaeological finds is less interesting than the villa itself, where Zhang was able to kick back in Victorian comfort after a hard day's modernizing.
